Marty Turco Out Tonight vs. Atlanta

FRISCO, Tex. -- Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Mike Smith from the Iowa Stars, the Stars' primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), under emergency conditions. Marty Turco is out of tonight's game against Atlanta (7:30 p.m., FSN, WBAP 820 AM) with a lower body injury, with which he is day-to-day.

Smith, 23, has appeared in 21 games with the Iowa Stars this season, posting a 9-11-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage. Among AHL goaltending leaders, the native of Kingston, Ont., ranks tied for sixth in shutouts, tied for seventh in save percentage, eighth in goals-against-average.

The 6-3, 211-pound goaltender was Dallas' fifth round selection (161st overall) by Dallas in the 2001 Entry Draft. With the AHL Houston Aeros in 2004-05, Smith posted a 19-17-3 record with a 2.42 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage with five shutouts.

Well Turco hasn't been doing well lately. Hopefully the reson was this injury. Maybe justing sitting out will help him. Not too worried about tonight, Hedberg has done well lately.
