teamriot38 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 Does anyone on this board play juniors, or has played juniors recently that would be willing to tell me about it. Whether it's junior A or Junior B. I'm 19 and if I don't at least get into a tryout I'll kick myself for a long long time. Has anyone done an open junior tryouts?
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 Ya, just go out, do what you can and hope for the best. If possible, bypass the rookie camp and just go to the main one.
teamriot38 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 It's tough though, cause I'm from nebraska and the general opinion is if I'm not from a michigan high school league then i shouldn't get a foot in the door.
Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 If you impress, it shouldn't be a big deal. In my experiences, the rookie camps are a joke and they have a predetermined number of kids out there that they want and the main camp is often open.If you want to try out, go for it, if not, don't. It's not a big deal if you get cut.
Dman33 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 I've played juniors for 4 years, 2 1/2 jr.b and 1 1/2 jr a, so i guess i've been around a bit. Going to an open tryout camp can go either way. Some teams use them purely as "fundraisers" just to make an easy buck, they might take 1 or 2 kids from those camps if your lucky. Other times it will be a legit camp. thats how I made one of the Jr. A teams i played for, just showed up off the streets and wass lucky enough to make it to training camp. Your best bet would be to just send out some emails to some junior coaches, introduce yourself, and explain your situation. You'd be surprised who many will reply, and most of the time the coaches will be honest with you. One coach told me he only needed 1 d from his tryout camp, so i went elsewhere. So just thorw out some emails and see what the deal is, cant hurt.
