Yet another Mission warranty question

Recommended Posts

As I mentioned in the post below, I recently purchased a brand new pair of Mission Black Fly hockey boots that have never had any type of chassis or ice frame mounted on them. I recently purchased a Red Star frame that fit better than the generator one I had and took it to a lhs to have it mounted. I got the skates back yesterday and everything looked good.

I just got back from doing a little skating in them. When I finished skaing and took them off, I noticed the outsole of one of the boots is separating at the heel. I only skated in them for about 1/2 hour and the separation is pretty significant. (I'll take pics later tonight)

Here's my original email that shows the boot:

So, my question is, do I have any chance at getting some sort of warranty? Are the boots just too old to be considered for warranty? I know mission has a policy against accepting altered equipment for warranty, but since they never had a chassis mounted, would these count? Being the boots were originally made for ice and I used them for roller, would that make a difference?

umm i dont think they would be under warranty. I had a friend that had wickedlights and he took off the vibe chassi and put on a labeda bomb chassi (sick chassi) and the warranty was voided. So i think that would sorta be the same with your situation although i understand you bought the boot seperatly and never had any type of chassi or ice blade on it. This is more a justin question so im not totally sure

Edit: and also you have to have a proof of purchase from less than a year ago

Sorry, but you voided the warranty by making it into a roller skate...I would put some epoxy in the outsole and try to use the skates this way....This skate never had outsole issues....

yeah it happens.. ur best bet is to use that stuff justin told you to use and hope that the outsole doesnt come off more than it already has.. like justin said these skates havent had a problem like this so maybe it wont split anymore than it has..

I knew getting a similar boot was probably impossible, and I wasn't looking at getting a high level trade in or anything like that. I hoped maybe he would say send them in and we'll re-glue them or something. But to be honest, I didn't hink I had a fighting chance.

yeah your right..they are very strict with the warranty.. as they should be.. there is a reason for that warranty being voided.. i guess when you take off a chassi or a ice blade it ruins the material and glue under the outsole.. hence y your skates might be splitting.. then again i could be pulling it outta my ass.. but idk it seems right.. only my man justin will know

I never pulled the frame or chassis off, they are brand new boots that never had anything mounted on them.

Ice or roller boot, that shouldnt happen after the first time skating, and if you have proof of purchase within a year, and mounting reciept within a resonable team they should do something about it, otherwise there gonna end up losing you as a customer.

ahhhh i c.. sorri, i missed that in the post.. then yeah thats a problem.. but i guess cause its a ice boot and a roller chassi was put on it thats y it voids the warranty.. thats some tough luck

They were purchased 1/11/06 (almost a month ago) and the chassis was mounted yesterday by Rollin' Ice in San Jose, which has a very reputable pro shop. They've done 3 mountings for me and I've been happy every time. I have to drive an hour to get there to drop them off and pick them up, but it's worth it.

Steveo,

Im kinda in the same boat as you, I took the frames that came on my 7500's off and mounted a Red Star on them...Last week the top of the boot at the ankle got a slice in it, like the stiching came loose or something and there is a clean like an inch slice down the ankle...It dosent really affect anything, except it piches my ankle every now and then, but still if I hadnt put new frames on the skates I could have them replaced. Oh well thats the way it goes.

I love em too...The Alloys are the best frames Ive ever used, to bad they stopped making them...I taped up the slice pretty good, dont know how well it will hold up, but its all I know to do for them.

If the alloys you are talking about are the red magnesium alloys, then I agree, best ever made. I have a set on my d2c's and they are my absolute fav skates!

steveo thats the ones...I have a set on my 7500's and another set on some Easton skates and Im trying to work out a deal with a guy on some D-1 limiteds and put the ones off the eastons on those...I think that would be a nasty combo.

I had some d-limiteds at one time....awesome skates. I'm sorry I got rid of them.

If you get the deal worked out, send me some pics w/ the r.s. frames on them.

So buy a pair of S500's or Purefly skates...Almost indentical, except for the eyelets....

Not to sound negative, but by doing so and making them inline, won't I void the warranty? (just fyi: I'm strictly an inline player)

I been using s500's for inline for almost two years now. The boot has held up fine. No delamination of premature breakdown or anything like that. Just get a frame mounted by a reputable place.
