Gaining weight, lose speed?

Recommended Posts

Im currently injured and out of hockey and am gaining quite a bit of weight from working out, muscle mass in my upper and lower body. I was told by some that this will only make me faster but by other that it will slow me down.I dont want to lose speed from gaining 15 lbs of muscle.

I'd imagine it would be based on the muscle groups you worked on. If they're necessary for skating, heck yes you will be faster, but if you added "idle" weight, and you haven't done anything pertinent to skating in some time, you will be slower.

I am doing plyos everyday and most the weight i have gained is in my quads, calfs, chest, and shoulders. No fat gain really. So you think I will indeed be faster? My leg press went up from 340 to 410 now 12 reps. You think this will help me?
