Easton SyNergy 900

Recommended Posts

Intro

The Easton Synergy 900 skates are the first pair of skates I ever purchased. I bought them in around mid-January and use them about 7-9 hours a week. I haven't been skating for very long so I'm not sure how helpful I can be as far as advanced features go.

Fit

Like Number 22 said, it's definitely a 50/50 thing they either fit or they don't. When I tried them on at the pro shop they were definitely the most comfortable skates I tried on out of the bunch (Vapors, Vectors and Missions), so naturally I bought them. However, after skating in them for an extended amount of time the top part of the ankle began to bite me pretty bad and I got a lot of blisters. Buying some figure skating bunga pads (?), the problem went away quickly.

6/10 if you aren't careful about trying them on, 9/10 if they fit you.

Blade/Holder

They work fine, I don't really know much about this. Since the radius is pretty long, I am able to pick up a lot of speed, and I feel more stable on them. Compared to figure skates, the blade seems to "snap" more on each stroke.

8/10

Weight/Protection

Whoa HELLA light (I'm from Oakland)! Compared to every other skate I have held, borrowed and tried on, I was shocked at how light they were, especially on the ice. The protection seems to be pretty standard, nothing out of the ordinary.

10/10 - Weight 7/10 - Protection

Durability

I can't really say much about the durability, since the boot is some kind of carbon fiber I'm more worried about all of the non-carbon fiber things attatched to it. But the boot of the skate has not softened in the slightest since I've been wearing them. I'm assuming the boot is going to remain stiff forever, and the skate is going to break in from the inside. Easton is using fusion foam which is supposed to mold to the shape of your foot the more you wear them.

9/10

Conclusion

The Easton Synergy is an excellent skate, and I would recommend it to anyone. It is extremely light, the boot has a lot of ankle stability (which is a good or bad thing as has been explained to me by different skaters) and the Dry Flow feature (a small hole in the sole of the boot) keeps your feet and the skate from getting too wet almost elimintating the need to dry inside of the skates. I would buy the Synergy's again, but I would have looked for the perfect fit instead of a good fit.

Overall 9/10

Easton Synergy 900 skate (10.5 D)

Intro-

My last pair of skates were the Z-Air Comps (04 model). I loved them, so i decided to stick with easton. I have now used these 900's for a full season playing both midget and prep school hockey.

Fit-

I have a pretty wide foot, and i usually take an E width, when i tried these on in a D, they fit me perfectly. I have let teammates try my skates out and they hated them, so i guess it's really hit or miss whether these fit you or not. They feel great if they fit your foot right though.

8/10

Blade/Holder-

As with all of the eason holders i've had, when i'm walking (from the locker room to the ice for instance) i hear this clicking sound, i think it is the steel moving up and down in the holder, however, when i hit the ice they are awesome. the screws that hold the steel in kept coming loose on me as well, but nothing a little lock tight couldn't fix.

7/10

Weight/Protection-

For a mid/high end skate, these seem very light to me. they definitely have more protection than my z-airs, maybe just because they are newer. Doesn't seem like anything special, sort of a run-of-the-mill skate.

7.5/10

Durability-

I've used these skates for one full season, as stated above, durring the prep school season i was skating every day at least an hour and a half, and they are holding up VERY well. I know some people have had problems with the composite not holding up on easton skates, but the composite boot is almost perfect aside from a few puck scuffs. Awesome durability from these skates, they are still very stiff, even though they are completely broken in. They are definitely ready to go for next season, i've never had a skate last me more than one year until these.

10/10

Intangibles-

One of the best features on these skates, In my opinion, is the vents in the bottom of the skate. Not only do they keep my feet from getting as hot while skating, but they also help tremendously in reducing the smell (my skates are usually unbearable) and also drying them out between skates (very important when skating every day).

9/10

Conclusion-

Overall, a very nice skate, great bang for your buck if you're looking for a nice skate without the hefty price tag. I would go with these skates again, or at least stick with the synergy series, I'm looking at the 1200's or 1300C's if i can get a good closeout price or something like that. I highly recomend these skates to anybody.

Overall 9/10
