We can argue who helped who out. Its probably a little of both, but

I personally think it was the other way around. Anson Carter's stats have been going downwards for the past few years and the Sedin twins are coming in their own with or without him.

I think I read last year prior to last year Vancouver signing Carter that the scouting report on him was that he didn't have anything anything else to show and what you saw was all you were going to get (no further significant potential development). I was hoping that Leafs were going to sign him last year, but if you go with the thinking that he was not go to progress any further I can understand the Leafs passing on him.

He had a bad season going into the lock-out. Before that he was regularly a mid 20's goal scorer. I think this was the first time he broke 30, but factor in the extra PP time and added scoring around the league it's not a "crazy" amount for him. He was supposed to be a bit of a pussy along the boards who wasn't great defensively. I'm praying the Leafs don't sign him for the reported 3 mill he's after though.

The way it was explained to me was that he wanted the 1 mill, it was a touch steep, and Quinn wanted Chow more anyways, as he always though Czercawki would fit well with Mats. So JFJ went out and got'em.

If he can't handle the pressure in NY, could he handle it in TO? Probably not. Carter did well in Van playing behind Naslund, Bert, Morrison, and Sedin x2. He was purely a second line player. In Toronto, the role he would need to fill would be first line scorer. Could he handle that? Probably not. I used to think he'd be a good signing, but now I'm talking myself out of it.
