has anyone ever used the eastwest "what skate is right for your foot" service?

im not sold on the fitting abilities of my lhs. after 15 years of playing ive had 2 pairs of skate that havent made my feet cry...i figure i should look into getting some skates that fit right.

Your LHS can only do so much to make sure a fit skates. It is not your LHS's fault that you have been buying skates that dont fit your feet. Its common sense that if the skate doesnt fit you then you shouldnt buy it. Try on every brand you can and get the one that feels the best its not that hard.

This may not have been the answer you wanted to hear, but its the truth.

Also about the service, if you want to try it,go ahead, im sure sending your picture to Jason might help you decide on skates in the future. If you want more info on it you could probably pm Jason on here, his member name is Jason@EWH , I believe.

perhaps i worded my post wrong.

example: my current skates felt fine when i tried them on, now, not so much. this is something id like to avoid in the future.

I know how that feels. I skated in my RBK 9Ks for about 10 times untill I broke my wrist in May and they felt fine, then recently I skated in them and could barely move. My arches killed and both my feet went numb.

Have you tried new, thicker insoles? Superfeet, Shockdoctor?

i know what you mean.

like as you skate, the inside of the skate changes as you break them in and they become uncomfterble.

some lhs's have workers who just are not hockey experts and cant give you great sizing tips.

do they feel bad because they are broken down, or simply because they don't fit your foot properly? When at your LHS, do you lace up the skates the same way that you would do for a game? Also realize that a small amount of discomfort when fitting skates can be multiplied many times over when wearing the skates over an extended period of time. When you fit skates, even if there is "only" slight discomfort, chances are that they won't work for you.

What were the two pairs of skates that did work for you? you may want to look into the same brand/line of skate if possible.

the ones that worked were a pair of 1052s and a pair of supremes. so who knows what will work now.

I've actually found that knowledgable LHS staff can find a good fit for a foot they've never seen in person. When I was 14 or 15 I wanted to get new skates. I was looking at Grafs but I didn't know which model would be best for my foot type. This was long before MSH so I had no where to get advice, seeing as the closest Graf dealer was 250+ miles away. I got in contact with Cyclone Taylors, faxed them a few traces of my foot, and after about a week they concluded that 705s would be best for me. Six years later I'm still skating in 705s. I would say that if you get somebody who knows what they are doing it can work. But then again I probably talked to them on the phone six or seven times and faxed multiple traces of my feet. I doubt this is typical of most places.
