I read in the "riddle of the russian rocket"

that Bure wanted to get nr. 96 from the beguinning of his NHL career in VAN

because:

he arrived in VAN at sept. the 6th so he wanted to get Nr . 96

Quinn told him the organization doesn´t want to give out such high nrs. So he took

nr. 10 like before in Russia.

Some seasons latter, as Mogilny signed in Van, he noticed that Mogilny got

a high nr. ,89 I think, so he went to Quinn and got 96.

He was injured several times with that nr. so he took nr. 10 again

Yes I was going to make the same exact point. Bure became a Canadian citizen on September 6, 1996 or you could say 09/06/96. He chose 96 because of September 6, not because of the year 1996. He also wore number 12 in one of the all star games but he obviously cannot wear 12 on the Canucks since it is Smyl's number. After a few unproductive and injury plagued seasons, he went back to number 10 before demanding out of Vancouver.
