Inside heel blister help

Recommended Posts

One my right foot, right at the back, inside of my heel, I keep getting a blister. I can feel the slightest wiggle in my heel when my skate is on. Any advice on how to correct this through punching the skate, OR advice on what to do to prevent the blister?

I can't help much here... a blister is caused by too much movement/rubbing, so I can't see how punching the skate (which would make it bigger) would help.

A bandaid or Dr. scholls patch would help protect the area and prevent a blister... but I'd check into how the skate is fitting to make sure you're not in danger of heel spurs or anything like that.

A lot of people recommend Bunga pads for loose fitting heels. (I don't have a link, but a search should turn something up.) Basically they're thin gel pads that wrap around your ankle.

I experienced the same problem when my Salming F1 skates broke in; the heal was too wide. I took the low-tech approach and just got the pull-on type elastic (neoprene) ankle supports, which I put on over my skate shocks. It’s worked fine for the last couple of months.

If the blister has not popped our you have had the chance to let it heal, just throw some athletic tape on that area on the skin. If it has popped ad a little gauze underneath the athletic tape.

I threw some athletic tape on the back of my ankle where I get a reoccuring blister from the tendon guard breaking down on my CCM's. Works like a charm.

That's interesting. The common feedback has been they are tighter in the heels, but obviously we all have different sizes/shapes.

Regarding Ogie's problem, try Vaseline, especially if you are wearing socks. The blisters are caused by constant pressure/rubbing over your skin. The Vaseline allows the sock to slide without abrading the skin.

So tonight was my first skate with SuperFeet grey insoles,, my right foot was perfect but my left foot blistered and the skin rubbed off. so bad that i had to leave the game, all I could do was tape over the missing skin and I got back into the game but was pretty unproductive. I skate barefoot and I really don't wanna go to socks but I have a feeling (at least for the left skate) that the superfeet has elevated my ankle so now it rubs in a spot that didn't rub before. I'm hoping the problem goes away as the insoles get broken in. until then, I'll take your advice and try the athletic tape for now.

You don't want to build up on top of the blister. Try cutting a hole in some semi-thick foam so there is foam surrounding the blister but not on top of it.

luckily I'm going on holiday for 2 weeks so my blister should heal before I lace up again... I don't think foam will fit inside the boot.

Try a "corn pad" (Dr.Scholls)comes in 2 sizes or a blister block pad.Other ideas for when the blister is healed:spray liquid bandage or nu-skin before you skate.Or a combination of all of the above. And antibiotic ointment on the blister if it breaks.

Google for "Mole Skin". It's a sticky tape that is fslightly fuzzy on one side. YOu can place it in the boot where you rub.

I've never used it in skates before, but me and the rest of the Infantry live by it for dealing with blisters.

You could do what one buddy of mine did, rip the skin off and fill the hole with super glue. :D

Matt... there are all kinds of really deadly infections you can get from the bacterial cesspool swimming around in your skates. Having said that, I know you barefoot guys are really hard to nudge back into socks.

Do yourself a huge kindness tho' and whenever you have an open sore - like this blister issue - put some socks on. [Jeez, I sound like such a mum!! lol]
