My first game... ever. TONITE!

Recommended Posts

I've just completed my 1st year of playing hockye at the adult Novice level. I"m still very much a novice. I remember for the first season I couldn't eat anything starting about 4 hours before a game because I was so nervous.

Rule number 1. Don't Panic!

Rule Number 2. Know where your towel is...err sorry wrong rule.

Don't expect to be [insert Favorite Pro Player Here] any time soon. Everything takes time. It took me about 3 seasons before I really got an idea as to what was going on and where I really needed to be. I'm a slow learner after all. Then things got turned on their head recently when I started playing a different position. I started out Right Wing and have just recently started playing Center.

As everyone said, try to have fun. Watch the better players on your team and try to see what they're doing. Also SKATE! If your feet are moving you can be moving, if you're just standing there it takes forever to get moving again.

I'm gonna contradict someone and suggest that if you get the puck, try to skate with it. Look for the pass, but don't pass up this opportunity to try to cary the puck. You'll need the practice and why not start now.

Last week during my 2nd game as center I was up at the blue line and the puck came at me for a beautiful chance. Both defenders were kinda far back in their zone. I had opportunity! Sadly I bobbled the puck and quit skating to try to recover it, that gave one of the defenders all the time he needed to neatly came up and knocked the puck away.
