Mini DV?

So we bought this camcorder last christmas its a mini dv panasonic but I don;t know how to put movies from it onto the computer?

It didnt come with the dv cord and iam guessing thats the cord i need to put them onto the computer?

I have the USB cord and know how to put pics on the comp but how for movies and such?

Do I need that DV cord?

I assume you have a pc? Because with macs it is a simple process.

I skipped over the pc section in my owner's manual (all 37 pages of it - to get to the 2 paragraphs about macs...LOL, couldn't resist). But I believe you just need the usb cable but MAY need to download a driver for the pc.

I have the panasonic, but don't have the owner's manual handy. It's a great camera!! I'll check into my box of "don't need this pc junk" to see what came with the camera.

Do I need that DV cord?

Without knowing what model you have, in most cases you will need a Firewire cable, and a Firewire card (if your computer doesn't already have one) in order to get video to your computer. Some camcorders take a USB cable as well, but use these for transferring pictures, using the camera as a web-cam, etc. On my Panasonic that's all the USB cable does. You will also need software, which probably comes with your camera.

In my area, big chains like Futureshop/BestBuy and dedicated camera places will charge way more for this cable than little mom-and-pop computer or electronics stores, so call around.
