arrows91 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2006 Hi guys.Im coaching U18s team as well as playing in it. Its really hard to get gd drills at the moment mainly becasue of the lack of number that turn up to training, and i think that its cos of my coaching. But im doing drills that ive done in GB trainin and no that work.Has any one got any drills they do at training that they want to pass on for me to try in the training?? Any drills from skating to game play.thanks
Dante2004 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2006 How long are your practices? How many people show up? What level of play? I know you said U18, but are they good? rec level? competitive?Keep the tempo high and don't have any down time. This gives kids (especially this age) too much time to start dicking around. If you are a player coach, especially player-coach the same age, it will be difficult to instill dicipline especially when it comes time to start conditioning. So don't "skate sprints" for long periods of time. Instead, incorporate the "work out" into competitive drills.Drill idea...I have my plays pair up with other players that are comparable in speed. On guy lines up on the goal line with the puck. The other player lines up directly behind. On the whistle they sprint to the other goal line. The guy in back (back checker) tries to steal the puck. If he suceeds, the puck carrier has to do 10 push ups (or what ever you decide). I find I get a much higher degree of effort out of this drill rather than just lining them up on the goal line and doing sprints. It also boosts their competitive drive. No one likes to lose. I do this until they start dragging ass and then I do 1-2 more reps. Push them past the point of fatigue.I could go on and on with others...but this would be based on their talent level. Are you teaching them to play? Or teaching them to play better? Are you trying to work on basic puck control? Or puck control, in traffic, while skating full speed? Stuff like that... Jbone 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2006 I've never had a inline practise in my life but I would think ones you do on ice would work just as well.
DennyRussell 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2011 I run a site, http://www.inlinehockeydrills.com. check it out and let me know what you think. The "Drill" menu has it broken down by Skills & Drills. You can take the Drills and advance them as you want. I coach at the 10U level so some may seem really basic.Russian Suicides (The Admiral) is one of my all time favorites. It's great for building puck handling skills/speed and back checking.http://www.inlinehockeydrills.com/2010/08/russian-suicides.html
