Super Tack 652s

Recommended Posts

I have been skating in these new skates for about 20 hours now. They are getting comfortable, and I like the width.

These skates are an older model Super Tack 652 (2003) that I picked up cheap, and I am wondering if I would still benefit from having them baked or not. Also, can these skates (or can just about any skates) be baked? Does the brand or model make a difference? I finally found an LHS that I trust, so I would pay them to bake them, I'm not sure if they have the CCM oven.

Sorry for the newbie type question, but I usually just wear them out of the box.

Thanks.

I wouldn't bother baking them. Especially since you don't seem to have any problems with pressure points or anything like that (don't mend what aint broken) ;). I didn't even heat mold my 2004 Pro Tacks (xx-stiff) as they broke in nicely anyway...

And yes, CCM skates (Tacks, Vectors & RBK:s) can all be baked. Most brands/models can. However there are some that cant (some Easton Synergy composite skates). Allthough I'm sure your LHS are able to tell which can/can't be baked.

sorta on topic, my easton z airs have been used twice. they're the old 99 model. they're rubbing skin pretty bad & left me with a 1" around bloody circle after the 2nd time. the first time was ok, maybe it just wasn't enough to break the skin.

think it's cause EE is too wide for me? the D was too narrow. or is it a break in issue? i home baked them in my convection oven.

I rock 652's. It took about ten skating sessions before I felt they were comfy enough, so just give it some time. They're good skates, although I had to replace both holders which broke.

Sicklife,

I think it sounds like they don't fit right. I don't really know.

Doc:

Thanks, I like them so far. I am worried about the holders too. What did you swap them for?

I got these for $79 vs. $199 for new ones. I'm pretty happy with the deal.

The ProLite holders both cracked on the offset posts. I play D and take plenty of pucks off the skates so I think that's what happened. My LHS didn't stock ProLites, so I swapped them out for standard E Pro holders and they work fine. The new holders cost about $20 each with labor.

Did they have to drill new holes to swap holders?

Yeah, and the front of the holders don't quite lie flush with the bottom of the skate (a MM or two of opening), but they've held up with no problems and I like them better than the old holders, which never felt right.
