Whats up with shin guards?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it is just me or what but I just ordered some new gear which included a new set of shin guards. Even though they fit length wise from knee cap down they are very, very narrow at the lower leg and the straps are just barely long enough to reach around and catch enough velcro to hold them in place. This is my second pair in 15+ years and my first set was the same way. I'm a big guy but my lower legs aren't that big. It's funny because all of the other gear fits perfectly pants, gloves, elbow pads and helmet. Anyone else have this problem with shin guards?

are they leaving anything exposed that shouldn't be?

you could just cut the short strap off and use tape or velcro straps.

i use Jofa 8090s that have that stupid thin single strap at the top, not used to the luxury of two straps :D

I bought CCM Supra 420's because they were on discount. The other pair I have had for several years are also CCM and the strapes were to short on them also but they fit the contour of my lower leg better. I don't know if most guys lace their skate around the shin guard but I like to put mine on over the tongue of the skate. The lower portion of these is so narrow they must be designed to go into the skate.

Thanks

my legs are liket ree trunks, and I use jr. shins (12") for roller. that means that I cut off straps and use tape. gives a better fit, IMO.

I think RBKs (Jofas) are supposed to fit wider.

I think I can make them work. I only paid $20 at Hockey World so the shipping to send them back isn't worth it. On a brighter note the other stuff is great. The Mission XL pants are huge, plenty big enough with plenty of room to spare. The CCM 1052 X-Ray helmet is awsome and so are the Reebok 5K gloves.
