Boot Punching

If a punch done on a boot doesn't solve the problem it was supposed to, can it be detrimental to the boot at all??

i had to have my vapor xxx's punched near the toe cap. i first had them baked and tried to wear them to break them in. the pain was in my right skate where my little toe hit the toe cap. when i was measured i measured for an 8-d, but for some reason they just didn't work. i was told that it was not the best thing to do but i had no choice, also after having them punched i noticed the side material kind of pulled away from the outsole so i had to glue it with some contact cement. long story short i picked up a pair of synergy 1300c's and they fit great.

i imagine it depends on the skate you have. i had a pair of vector 7s punched with no ill affects to the boot outside of some cosmetic issues. there was a small bump on the outside of the boot and thats it. the punching didnt do anything for me.

Virtually every skate my daughter has used has been punched to eliminate a hot spot. Has never had a detrimental effect on the skate.

I would imagine, like most things, it depends on how knowledgeable the technician is.

so far so good. no problems just a bump on the outside of the boot. I have also heard that baking after a punch kind of resets the punch. Anyone heard anything similar? Thanks guys!

Maybe not completely, but Yes you are correct.

you can also blend, minimze the punch by adding localized heat to the punched area. You have to be careful with the heat.... it doesn't take much.

what exactly is "punching a boot", i havent heard of this before, (im not too picky with my skates, i try em on till i find one that feels good)

basically stretching an area of the boot that's a hotspot on your foot. Allows a bit more room in the painful area.

the device used looks kind of like a giant paper punch, but doesnt put a hole in the boot, just leaves a nub sticking outwards.
