Sore Big Toes

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I have a questions. I wear Flexlite 10's. I tie the foot fairly loose and really tighten up at the ankle. The last few weeks, I have not tied the top eyelet as the Nike's are very high and I just wanted to see what it would be like to have more ankle movement. I LOVE it. Now, when I tie it one eyelet down, the ankle is not locked in that tight. Not an issue as my skating has improved pretty well. The thing is, I notice the last few weeks that my big toes have been getting sore. Is my foot moving around now that my ankle is tired up real tight anymore and are my toes rubbing? I don't really notice it when I am skating, but nothing else has changed the last few weeks.

Just curious if anyone has experienced anything simliar.

Thanks.

Are your toes "sore" like rubbing or "sore" like tired?

Most people when they skate at thier best tend to curl thier toes a little bit.

Perhaps you're just unaccustomed to that because they didn't move much before.

My big toes actually cramp after I skate and I have to stretch them out (they are immobilized by shoes most of the time).

Maybe I'm just wierd though. :)

Well, they are sore right now and on both it's the top of the toe mostly towards the outside of the foot, so I would say it's cause of rubbing

I guess the first thing I, personally would do, is pull out my insoles and check sizing on them.

You should have no more than a finger width (depending on age, skate and personal fit, of course).

Do you have an LHS with competent staff that you shop at?

There's a lot of things that they should be able to help you with, if I had to guess, you might have a narrow foot, or a boot that's too wide.

Or, there's a chance you might not be used to your boot that loose.

I hope you can get more input from the MSH users, but I think your LHS should have better insight.
