LS2 Blades - Hollow and Profile

Recommended Posts

I think the LS2 blade tuning thread is lost so I re-started this one.

These are my findings on the LS2's that may help some others.

I believe in the marketing statement about the blade's profile. I felt there was more blade in contact with the ice in the LS2. I originally went with a 1/2" hollow (from my LS1) and I ran into some trouble. My agility, or dexterity was reduced and I had a stopping problem. Both these were solved by going to a larger radius hollow. Because the blades are more stable, I also opened up my boot at the top to allow for a less restricted lower leg/ankle movement in my skate. My skates feel more like a hi-top running shoe.

In doing so I still retain the speed, power and stability of the LS2 blade.

Summary - If using the factory LS2 profile:

Increase the hollow radius by 1/16" to 1/8"

For soft ice, go another 1/8" or to suit.

The speed is awesome. The skates are absolutely rippin' it - which has caused another issue - coming up with new moves at the net!

For the athlete, video is required for analysis of everything. I highly recommend you have someone take regular video of yourself playing, doing skills etc. if you are serious about improvement

Video can also be used as a team building tool and as a motivator. I started doing videos of our team and we went from the "B" pool to the top of the "A" pool in 2 seasons. Video was a big part of that success. Examples are...

For an equipment builder, we use it to benchmark performance (e.g time the hot lap), and to observe how the equipment is functioning in a dynamic way.

In marketing, we use video to communicate a concept or idea and to entertain.
