hockey_is_hard 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2007 A few months ago I took a couple hard falls on my butt and have been sore ever since. I try to avoid hitting the boards or anything, but whenever I slam into the boards or fall I get some pretty bad pain. It doesn't feel like any of the bones are broken or injured, it is just muscle pain. Even walking normally still hurts. Because of this, I was thinking of investing in a girdle. There aren't any hockey shops near by, and the closest ones (~45 miles away) don't sell roller hockey girdles. I was looking at the pictures of the girdles on epuck and inlinewarehouse, but it is really hard to tell how much protection is there. Does anyone have any experience with this? Everyone seems to like the Thorax, but I can't tell how much protection is there. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
ATLstealth09 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2007 I have a new Mission D2 girdle that I got for Christmas year ago that I didn't ever use... if you want it, I can part with it for $25 shipped to the U.S. I'm not sure of the size, but if you're interested I can take a look for you. godiogo 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2007 I wear a Mission Thorax Advantage girdle. It's very light and protective enough that you won't worry about falling or hitting the boards during a game.
TheSnake22 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2007 i'm a big fan of the ccm pf10 girdle, lightweight, decent protection, cant feel it at all... the thorax is good, i have the old version of the thorax, but it's not the ultimate in protection...but if you're looking for protection, what is now the rbk 6k girdle, used to be the ccm pf8, has the most protection. 100 percent coverage and still pretty lightweight... that or the mission helium line...check out the girdle page on rollerhockeymonkey.com. they have a pretty good selection and you can get an idea of the different levels of protection...guess hockey giant actually has a better selection... It looks kind of bulky though... I think I will pass on it for now. As of now, its looking like the pf10 and thorax have the most butt protection, but they are pretty pricey. I guess you get what you pay for, eh? Is there much difference between the normal thorax and the thorax advantage besides the padding going up higher to protect the kidneys? Justin 1933 134 Report post Posted May 21, 2007 The thorax advantage has more padding in the thigh (front and back) and has the kidney protection. You will not find a girdle that fits better than the Thorax (regular or advantage). It has the best fit, best flexibility, and offers the best protection in the key areas. Not to little, not to much...

Not to little, not to much...I bought the CCM PF4 because it was cheap and haven't found a reason to upgrade. If I could, without looking stupid, I'd pull on my old Takala's. But, I've taken some nasty falls this year and often run into the boards, and have been pleasantly suprised at the lack of bruises. Ditch the built in cup as it never ever sits right, and its works pretty decent.
Tyler B 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2007 i have the normal thorax..... its a good girdle only thing i wish i had was the kidney protectors because i stand infront of the net alot and the d men around here like to let me know they are there by cross checking me in that general area. aside from that took a few falls and never felt a thing. I am leaning towards the normal Mission Thorax, but if the PF4 fits well and offers the protection I need back there, I may go with that instead. Thanks for all of the input! Justin 1933 134 Report post Posted May 21, 2007 I guarantee nothing will fit better than the Thorax....More flexibility, and great protection...

Thanks for all of the input! The thorax will fit better-the PF 4 just slides on breezer style. That being said, i've never found myself saying "my god this thing is uncomfortable!" or something of the ilk. So I'm guessing its ok, but I've also never worn an expensive girdle. The only time I've been unhappy wearing it is when its 100+ at game time, and in those temps, its just really uncomfortable playing hockey at all.
precursor 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 I also have the Thorax advantage.. it fits amazingly well, and is more comfortable than it looks.
TheProfessor 2 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 If you really wanted a lot of protection you could go with an ice girdle. Most would think that would be overkill, but that'd offer the best protection. When I got my girdle I thought it needed a bit more protection on the tailbone, so I took out the tailbone pad, traced the pattern onto some padding from old shouldies, and added an extra layer. I'm too old to bust my ass trying to look like a dangler. :)
TheSnake22 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 i like a lot of mission product, but i would have to disagree with you on this one justin. i can't speak for the thorax advantage girdle, it looks like it might fit better, but the older thorax doesn't fit quite as well, at least for me. the plastic caps just don't fit as snug as the pf10's foam padding. that being said, any girdle is probably a good idea, i don't know how i played for so long without one... shute 4 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 i wouldn't mind giving a girdle another shot but i want the tight fitting ones like the thorax. only problem is that i tried the thorax before but it always felt like they were coming off and i had to pull them up all the time during the game. i want the a adjustable belt like normal girdles but in a tight fitting girdle. does anyone know if the Thorax advantage or the pf10 has that? TheSnake22 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2007 the pf10 has a drawstring but not a belt... don't know about the advantage...
