Jersey Size - IIHF

I bought a Replica Team Canada jersey a while back (tags are still on) in L. Fits fine but the guy in the store said I could go for XL also. The L is a bit snug on the shoulders but the XL had too big a chest. It felt like wearing a parachute.

I was back in the store the other day and noticed a L/XL size. Does anyone know what's the deal with the in between sizes? I couldn't really tell.

I'm thinking that may be a youth jersey. I carried the IIHF jerseys in my store but only in senior sizes so I can't be 100% sure. I have some youth jerseys in my shop from Easton and they come in two "combined" sizes, S/M and L/XL.
