Strained Quad

Recommended Posts

I strained my quad last Sunday during fitness testing for the team I'm trying out for. Monday-Thursday this week I have been on the ice from 7-10 for the camp. It's been sore, but not unbearable. If I sat out these ice times, I would more than likely have been cut. It's not holding me back at all, it's just a constant flaming feeling on the muscles. We've had Friday to Sunday off, and my quad really feels stiff. It's definitely not a severe strain since I've been able to Practice/Scrimmage at a high pace with it. I haven't been icing it,(bad decision) I started today and it's feeling better. But anyways, on to my question, is it possible to make it worse by playing on it tomorrow/all this week?

Also can anyone tell me a good rehab exercise(s)? And my limits on stretching it? I've been very careful(besides the 3 hours of ice Monday to Thurs) .

If you feel like you need to play, make sure you get one hell of a warm up in. Any time something like that has come up for me I try to get in about 45 minutes before I go on the ice. Start off with a walk, then a power walk, stretch, then jog, stretch again, jog, stretch again, maybe wall sits or something. Bottom line, get nice and warm and loose. But once you stop moving its gonna tighten up on you.

And you do risk making it worse / prolonging the injury. Icy hot and ibeauprofin (spelling?) are your friend.

I strained my upper quad about 3 weeks ago and had been battling getting it strong again for a while. For me....the heating pad for a couple of hours a night along with stretching and taking it easy for about 10 days was all that would fully calm it down.
