Intermediate Bionic and Pro Summit

Recommended Posts

I have had an intermediate bionic glove for four years now and i need to get a new one. I loved the bionic glove and i was wondering if the summit is basically a remake of the bionic with a new name or is there differences.

I'm in love with my Int. Bionic glove too, and I've had the chance to demo a pro-spec Summit.

Though there are some physical differences, which I'll outline below, the pro-spec Summit is as close to the Int. Bionic as you're going to find. The break is identical, and the nearly magic balance of the Bionic has been preserved. That said, they are not the same glove.

The Summit is MUCH lighter than the Bionic, but it's also a good deal smaller on the outside. TPS' listing of the Int. Bionic at a 46" perimeter is a very hopeful one. The Summit pocket is shorter and shallower, but I found, to my surprise, no real difference in catching. The shape of the Summit pocket makes the most of what it has, and the Summit palm is much better at funneling pucks into the pocket, where on the Bionic they might have hit and stuck in the palm or popped out.

The strapping system is different on the Summit. You still get the metacarpal crossover, but you lose the wrap-around wrist-strap. The Summit has a cinch-down strap like the Velocity. Some people hated the Bionic wrist-strap, but I love mine - I find it's integral to the glove's balance. That said, the Summit performs identically - it just doesn't feel quite as cushy and comfy on the hand and wrist.

In the end, if and when I have to replace my Int. Bionic, it'll be with a pro-spec Summit, or a clone I have someone build for me.
