Juice_Slowjamz 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 I recently moved to Ontario from Michigan, and I've noticed that my Firefox browser automatically redirects to the Canadian versions of some common US websites, E.G. abercrombie.com or hotels.com. Is there anyway to stop it from automatically redirecting? I've looked in the options of the browser, but no luck. Any suggestions?
precursor 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 It's probably not firefox.More than likely, the website you are looking at is seeing that your IP address is from a Canadian ISP and is automatically redirecting you.what happens in IE?

RadioGaGa 162 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 Wouldn't those re-directs be related to a cookie set by the site on your computer?Blow out all yoru cookies, and see what happens.
kukakid 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 The redirects are coming from the ISP/DSN server that you are connected to. Nothing really you can do about unless you want to go through a proxy server. That would route you through another server in another place which ideally would then route you to the site respective to that server's physical location (ie. if the server is located in the USA, you should get routed to the us version of any site). Just do a search for proxy servers in google and you should get some info.
wullymc 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Good suggestion kukakid! It is the same reason why you can't go to CBS.com and watch a tv episode. The ISP server displays that you are coming from a non-american domain thereby denying access.
kukakid 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Yea, I did this awhile back so I could watch some streaming hockey (I think it was WJC or something). Anyways the only stream I could find was from CBC or something which denied me access since I had a US IP. Went through a Canadian proxy server and everything worked!
