Ice to Roller conversion help-setups

Recommended Posts

First i wanted to say hello, and say thanks for a great forum.

I recently got back in Roller Hockey and i cant believe how much it has progressed in a few years.

I have a few questions about how to do a custom Ice to Roller conversion. I saw the other thread with many pictures, but I didn't see too much on cost or how to go about it.

I have a pair of CCM roller's but they just don't offer the fit and comfort of my older Micron skates.

So i want to do a custom ice to roller setup.

I have the skate boot, and I also have a roller chassis.

Any recommendations on what type of wheels or bearings?

What does a shop charge to mount a new chassis on the boot?

I am located in NJ if that helps.

I play on an outdoor rink as well.

Thanks for any help.

Scott

Depending on where in NJ you are, I could possibly recommend a couple of shops. You can expect to pay $25-$40 for a chassis installation. With regards to wheels and bearings.....what type of surface will you be playing on? How heavy are you? Will it be an indoor or outdoor surface?

I recently got a pair of Easton 800c's mounted with Red Star frames about 8 months back in Northern Jersey for $35 good mounting too. Let us know where around you are so people can tell you places to go.

Hi guys

OIK, we play on an outdoor court usually. Its not black top or concrete its more of a painted grip material. Not sure what exactly it is.

I live in Ewing NJ, 08638

Anyone heard on DelVal Hockey in Bristol PA? What about Grundys? Iceland?

I'll check back later. thanks for the help.

I used to live in Toms River NJ, and went into the Ewing area fairly often. Iceland is a very good shop. Sounds like I play on a very similar surface as you here in Asheville NC, and the #1 thing you need to be aware of is keeping your bearings clean and in good condition. Personally, for outdoor use, I'm a huge fan of the Swiss bearings, BSB to be specific. They are more costly than other bearings, but they have fantastic dust seals that keep the balls properly lubricated (since nothing really gets past their seals) and you will get excellent bearing life out of them.

I'm also about your size and I have been using the Rink Rat MB-816's in the 78a durometer. Those wheels are designed for the Mini Bearings, 688's. If you will be using more traditional bearings and wheels, 608's, then I would suggest a similar duromter in the Rink Rat Hornets.

Thanks for the indo.

I have Rink Rats right now and they perform well.

I was trying to decide between the Swiss and other brands, I think im going to spend the $$$ and get the good seals.

The place in Ewing plays on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Never skated there....I was usually playing at the Ocean Ice Palace in Brick NJ, or at the Winding River Complex in Toms River.
