Just recieved my first pair of Missions (Lieutenant)

Recommended Posts

So my first ever pair of Missions arrived today from inlinewarehouse.

I tried them on, but I can't tell if they are the right size or not. Initially, my foot fits into the skate but my toes are as tight as they can possibly be, almost crammed.

Does baking your skates give a tighter fitting skate more room? It feels like the back of my foot is not fully against the heel of the skate, it doesn't seem to be able to fit in that tight area. Will baking allow my heel to move back further and open up more room for my toes?

I've never owned skates that require baking before so I don't know what the effects of it are. I may need to return these so I can't go out and bake them if they are the wrong size.

baking should let your heel move all the way back into the pocket.

ok, thanks.

Also, as of right now when I lace them up fully, there is a lot of pain on my ankle from the heel pocket just sitting here in the skate. They feel wide enough to me on the rest of my foot, should I just assume that this pain is due to the fact that they need to be baked to open up the heel pocket a bit more for me?

To give you some personal experience. I wear a size 10 in most shoes and I ordered a 9.5 in Boss after trying on a Boss in 9 and 10 (the LHS didn't have them in stock :( ) and when I first put them on I thought "oh no, too small". When I laced them up fully my toe was feathering the cap and the inside of my big toe was being kinda pushed over by the cap. After skating in them just twice my foot has moved back to the point of actually being able to lock and now they fit perfectly IMO in length.

As for the ankles, I have pain too, but that's just the stiff ankles needing break-in. It got MUCH better the second time, and MUCH MUCH better the third. I'm usually a pretty big pansy when it comes to skates that hurt my feet, so when I say it hurt a lot at first, it probably wouldn't bother most too much. But after just a few times skating in them (haven't baked yet) they definitely feel great and are breaking in MUCH faster than I thought they would.

Hope that helps some.

I've found that If I tie the skates tigher, my toes are less cramped. The issue of fit appears to have only been due to the fact I wasn't tying the skate properly.

Now my only issue is the pain. It hurts enough that when I stand up and try to simulate a skating motion on my carpet, I look like someone who has never skated before and have to sit down. Again, the rest of my foot feels great though, so I guess I'll just bite the bullet and get em baked and hope I didnt' waste 400 dollars!

Heat fit makes all the difference on these skates. The internals need heat to activate and change shape.

Well, I took them to my LHS (Puck Hogs). They had a BlackStone over, not a Mission...so I hope it didn't make a difference.

The guy running the store insisted that 6 minutes wouldn't be enough, I know it says 6 on the box...but he kept them in there for about twice that time.

He told me to tie the skates as tight as I could once I put them back on, which I am not sure if I am actually supposed to do or not.

Most of his methods did not go along with the methods recommended on the Mission website, but I decided to trust him since Puck Hogs is a respected shop.

Hopefully he knew what he was doing and when I try to skate in them tomorrow everything will be A-OKay!
