Busted thumb

Recommended Posts

So the story is following:

1. December we had a beerleague game, i got tripped while carrying puck deep. Fell straight on my right hand which still had stick, hurted like hell but still played rest of the game (10mins or so). After the game thumb swollen twice the size of normal. Went to a private hospital where my insurance has deal. Diagnose was 'skier's thumb'/busted jointligament that has to be operated as soon as possible.

So back to the insurance company i went, detailing them out. they said 'sure we'll pay, youll get permission in couple of days' A LIE! i waited the few days and called the insurancecomp back, woman on the other end said the processing takes TWO WEEKS!!!.. And working in a psysical job i got sickleave for 3 weeks in which is should have been operated and all is well on recovery.

this week i finally got the letter that they pay it and you can go ahead and schedule the operation, so i did. this being the holiday season they dont operate anything else than really urgent cases the first time i got was on 4th of january. So the ligament is all scarred up by now and they have to open it all up again. Will get 4-6weeks recovery time, which makes it early feb or mid feb. and our season will end by then...

good thing i got a deskjob for the time being, so they dont cut of any of my salary. BUT I AM BORED AS HELL!!!! all my activities include using my right hand and dont fancy running at all.

if you took the effort and red it all the way to this, i just wanted to let some steam out!!!!! after this its bye bye to this insurance company for sure.

Lol, don't feel bad, my friend. I seriously strained my hamstrings, and now can't skate or anything for 3 or 4 weeks!! The only good thing is I can still shoot pucks in my house, without that, I'd have already gone insane. It really, really blows.

Life without hockey is not life at all

I hate insurance companies. When I got surgery on my hand the hospital, my surgeon, and my insurance company were all complete asshats to me. I was getting letters from hospital as well as the surgery place for 3 months after the thing was over.

It was the opposite of you. They were like 'yeah get the surgery we'll send the paperwork after' so I did. Then they were trying to not cover it and put me through a big mess.

Yea, as the days went by i started feeling that my finger and recovery wasnt anymore the concern, more like how to straighten out this mess with insurancecomp.

I sincerly think they teach them to be complete asses in united tax/insurance-school for losers

Agreed. Luckily for me my hand was already put back together by the time they started being shmucks about it.

Post it up once your surgery is finished and try not to hurt yourself anymore :) Driving is a bitch the first couple days with a cast on your hand.

I had something like that after I got my cast removed just to wear whenever I thought I'd be somewhere someone could bump my hand. Consider yourself lucky if you have something you can remove when your just sitting on the couch watching TV not in any danger of hurting yourself.

Nothing was worse than finding a comfortable place to put my hand when I Was tryin to sleep or lay on my side with that cast on. HAha, Thumbs up to ya!

You should have just went ahead and had the surgery and advised them that you were going to pay in installments monthly. Then send the bill to your insurance company and they pay. It works down here, I do it all the time. There are times where waiting for health care is just not feasible. Now when I had my ACL repaired....I had to wait for approval because that was an expensive outing that the hospital would have required a down payment for.

And the story continues. on the friday 4th i walked in to hospital 7am, got my armpit shaven and given a few drugs. 8am surgeon came to my room and asked some more investigation before the operation so i went with him. 15mins later he suspects that it has been repaired on its own, there has been a pretty long wait after the accident that if it were torn it would need a complete rebuild so time is no issue here.

So he writes me one and a half month worth physiotherapy and a reschedule for control checkup on feb 18th. I really have my hopes up this time, since the physio copied me instructions how to tape it up when working out / playing hockey!!!!!! We have 3-4 appointments with her per week to keep things on the right track B)

It's great you don't need surgery. Excellent news that you can resume playing again in the near future. Just rest it a while first :D
