RBK 4k and 5k inlines

Recommended Posts

I have both the RBK 4k and 5k inlines.

I bought the RBK 4k october 2006 after playing street hockey with my rollerblade lightnings for 15 years. But after playing semi seriously, the lightnings couldn't cut it anymore. I have flat feet, so buying new skates is almost impossible because everything hurts. Everyone reccomended Mission and Tour skates to me, but my feet hated both those brands. My feet also rejected Nike, Bauer, and ccm. I thought I'd have to give up when I tried the rbk 4k's size 10D on a whim at sports authority. Turns out they were the most comfortable skate I had ever tried on. I paied $130 for them. I used the rbk 4ks from october 2006 until 4 months ago when I picked up the rbk 5k size 10D on clearance for $120. I felt my game had advanced beyond the rbk 4ks, and I needed a stiffer boot.

I'm very happy with both skates. I use my rbk 4ks in my casual games, and the rbk 5ks in the more serious games. I had tried on the size 9D initially but they were way to small and they had no 9.5D so I just went with the 10. I think the size 10 is slightly big on me, but I make do with it. I recently tried on the '08 model of the rbk 5k in a 9.5. However I could not tell if my feet were hurting because the skates were brand new/factory sealed, or because it was just to small. I was getting some ankle pain and big left toe pain.

I never had to break in the rbk 4k skates, perfect right from the get-go. The rbk 5ks took about 5 games to break in and get rid of any pain at all. The '07 rbk 5k is a very heavy skate, but I feel confident that it is sturdy with all the outdoor falling and abuse I give it.

Not really sure why I am writing this, just curious to see if others here have the same combinations of skates or issues with flat feet and skates that I have?

I've been using the same 5k's for outdoor. I've never tried the 4k's, but I'd imagine that the 5k's are stiffer, so they need more time to break-in. You can bake the 5k's, which speeds up the process a bit.

I like my 5k ice boots. I don't skate ice enough to really break them in around my foot, but I have baked them twice so far. You might want to hit a hockey shop and look for some closeouts on ice skates and have them baked when you try them on. Get your tri di chassis from one pair of your skates mounted on the ice boot. That way you can try on the boot and have it baked.

I use roller 5ks with variant wheels, I haven't had any problem with them. Just finished one season, I really like the skate lock.

I'll probably be converting some XXV's to inline for next season though, I really want something lighter.
