from graf 735 to g7

Recommended Posts

im planning on getting the g7's (white) and from what i know the g7's are a updated version of 707 wich was an awesome skate. would i have complications breaking into the g7? im assuming it wont be a long process becaue ive always stuck with graf but then agian the materials around it and inside it are more advanced and i never skated on a pair of g series skates.

good move or bad move?

i have never held a g7 skate before but from what i see they have the same tounge as a g5 wich ive seen at this local equipment shop and they dont seem very flexible like the older graf models. and im thinking that i want to replace the tounge with the old white one.

I have the G5...the tongues suck dick, and it's very easy to get lacebite through them even if the boot is the right size for you...I'm looking to replace them so if you know where I can order up different ones LMK.

They won't sell directly to the public chief I already contacted them. They want me to go through a retailer...and the closest one is near two hours away and they rarely get Graf shipments in, I would be waiting a year before they arrived.

You might want to try the ebay route and pick up a pair of older used skates just for the tongues...I'm partial to the old ccm tongues (put some on my 8090's). I constantly scan using "ccm hockey skates" as a search title. I usually can wade through the results and find a nugget or two in there.

Used to go the East West Hockey route, but they've been out for awhile...

Do you have to match up sizes? My grafs are a 9.5...fit the same lengthwise as a 9 in bauer.

Not really...I put a pair of 9.5 tongues on my size 9 8090's. I guess it depends on the size of the tongue your putting on there. The place I have mine done at actually sews it onto the existing tongue. They leave a little of the old tongue still attached to the toecap so as to not damage the toecap (can't really sew to a composite toe cap). That CCM tongue I have on is pretty big. I'd rather have too much tongue than too little.

Here's a pictongues

$20 at a shoe repair shop...

I also am a little spoiled in that these guys also repair hockey equipment (they do MN Gophers and Wild equipment repairs).

From the previos posts I've read here on this topic, I think everyone is in agreement that any shoe repair guy with any talent can do this rather easily..
