well I think you first need to find out of it's a wireless G router like Clarke mentioned...

go through the wireless settings in the network menu, there are alot of options and stuff you need to make sure is right. then to a connection test.

I know this sounds bad but have you tried moving the ps3? mine got crappy reception, but i moved it like 2 feet from where it was and now it works fine. sometimes the signal gets caught up in walls and whatever else it has to go through, and a simple move can sometimes fix it.

Is the ps3 too far away to just use an ethernet cable? That way you'll also get a strong steady signal all the time. Hardwired internet is always stronger and faster than wireless.

Really depends on the size. I got a 50" cable for $30 but that is from radio shack which is just a rip off. I would just look around. My friend found a place in portland that sells 10' cables for $2.

Sorry to thredjack but does anyone know what kind of wireless router to get for my PS3. My PS3 is downstairs and my interent is upstairs so I can't use the cable. Will I be good to go with one of the cheap wireless routers or should i go for one of the more expensive ones.

As said a little higher in the thread you need to make sure its a Wireless G router. I would also suggest since you are going to have to send the signal through the walls make sure that it has a good range on it.
