I had to get new skates and wanted to get them profiled. I asked for a Forward profile. The LHS put a 30/50 profile on the CAG machine and that felt like I was neutral to slightly on my heels. He said that I should try a 30/45 if I don't like that(but isn't this a smaller radius @9ft) and what about 35/50. What is the difference between the two. My skates are a size 10.5....thanks in advance

I really don't what to recommend, there are others here who can do a better job of that; however, I can help with what the numbers mean.

First: there are three parts to the blade's profile. Toe, middle or working area, and heel.

Second: the numbers refer to the middle or working section.

Third: the larger number refers to the length of working area, ie 50 millimetres. The smaller number refers to amount of that working area that is forward of the balance point (mid point of the blade). The greater the percentage of working area that is forward of the balnce point the more forward "pitched" the skate will feel

Example: 30/40 means that the working area of the blade is 40 mm long and that 30mm or 75% of that working area is forward of the balance point (ie the balnce point is towards the rear of the working area). This will feel like the blade is pitched forward or toe down.

Thanks Jordan. I guess that the radius is determined by the larger #. So what would a 30/50 be compared to a 30/45......ie: 30/50=10ft, 30/45=9ft is this rite. I just want to know what radius I am getting. If anyone can help that would be great.
