BobMcRobertson 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Aside from it breaking, how can you "tell" when it is time to replace a wood blade on a two piece? I have been using a Mission pro-stock for about a month and aside from the wood starting to splinter on the toe edge, it seems fine. I am not particulary hard on sticks, but what is this things life expectancy?
habsfan87 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 You can use it until you no longer feel comfortable using it or it breaks. If your shot goes to crap and its starting to get flexy then you can replace it.
Engine37 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 It's really not too difficult to tell when a wood blade needs replacing. The blade will go "soft", meaning it will flex a great deal more than usual (if you can really flex it with your bare hands, its probably on its way out). Also, certain areas will begin to disintegrate/splinter away (always happens right under the heel and right at the end of the toe for me). You also might notice it will lose some of it's "feel", in that it might just start to feel a little numb or "dead".
BobMcRobertson 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 It is a bit more flexible than at first, and it is splintering at the toe and heel. From what I read in the other thread, those Mission Pro-Stocks HM was selling don't hold up that long.....thanks for the help guys.
fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 6 months playing once weekly. Thats with the effort of using epoxy on the blade every two weeks.
BobMcRobertson 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 What kind of Epoxy do you use?
psh 25 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 2 months playing on average twice a week is the longest I ever get. I replace it if it starts cracking or if it starts flexes too much. Shots will start going weak and wide right for me, or you can just try twisting the blade with your hand.
fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 any two part epoxy. Stay away from the putty type.apply it to the bottom edge of the blade.
Law Goalie 147 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 The Mission pro-stocks were all over the place. Some guys broke them on six shots - mine have been indestructible. It's whatever the player asked for, really. My Marleaus are as stiff as my Modano composites.
scorer75 9 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 My wood blades usually last 6-8 sessions that include games and practice.I'd love something that lasts longer.I'm currently using Sher-wood 9950's.
Bravada 442 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 If you're not sure if you should change it, I would say don't change it. I think that there is a noticeable difference in feel when wood blades start to get that mushy feeling. Snapping a pass all the sudden doesn't have the velocity, a slap or snap shot doesn't seem to make the same sound or come off the same way. It's just a feel you'll get when its gotten to the point of replacing, but its usually pretty noticable for me.
houk 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 My wood blades have lasted 2 months thus far. 2x week on the ice. The toe has started to chip and splinter.
Super Star 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 I find what wood blades don't last long at all some times only a few minutes I broke one in two shots but sometimes they last for more then two weeks you never know with wood it varies from blade to blade. BobMcRobertson 0 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Thanks for the info, I haven't noticed a decrease in performance, so I won't change it out until that happens.
