Graf 703 or 735 ?

Recommended Posts

only skate that is going to keep that tight heel but widen the forefoot is the S15/S11 from easton.the 705 forefoot is the same as the 735 forefoot, and you will lose the tight heel

mikeweb,

My G3 Ultras look exactly like yours in the pictures. I think it's just sloppy glue work. I've had mine for 5 months skating twice a week and have no issues whatsoever with that area. Also, because of the exterior bumps on the surface of the Ultras, and how they come down to the sole of the boot, in some places there are gaps between the outsole and the boot where only the raise portion of the bumps makes contact with the outsole. Again this has not been an issue in my experience.

As for whether or not the outsole is carbon, if you peel off the insole and look in the boot you'll see real carbon fiber composite in there. So that stuff is somewhere, just not on the outside. (Is it still called an outsole?)

That is the "2nd gen" outsole. I believe Graf calls it teclite or texalite.

The last time I talked to a Graf guy, he referred to the outsole as "Texalite" and the upper material (from the Supra G series) as "Teclite" for what it's worth.

Bert: all Graf retail toe-caps are relatively narrow, but you can have them stretched (same as Missions).

tsanga: in my limited understanding, the general layering of the underfoot materials goes something like this:

[your foot]

footbed (removable)

insole

midsole (not generally found in skates)

outsole

contact surface (rubber/leather on a shoe or the holder assembly on a skate)

[playing surface]

So I guess what the 2007/8 Grafs have is a plastic outsole and a carbon insole.

That's odd. I tried 2 shops and everyone's telling me that I'm risking having the toecap separate if I try to widen.

Any suggestions on a skate with wider ankles than 735?

As a general rule, they're right, but everyone I've asked has said that Grafs and Missions are easily stretched in the toecap.

I had it done to my Flexlites, and sure enough, the toecap separated. Still, nothing a little contact cement couldn't fix.

hey guys i use the 735 and i had them for about a year now. they are great skates and ive never had problems with them untill recently. i think i wore them out because after 2 peroids the skates dont stay stiff enough and i have to tie them super tight wich caused a blister on my left ankle. my feet start hurting after 2 shifts from tieng them up really tight. is it time to move on to a new pair?

i checked the outsole on my grafs and there isint any sloppy glue work on them. everything is in place and perfect once agian i never had problems till now. graf makes amazing skates but after 4 years i think im gonna take another route for a change.
