thefelixculpa 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Every time I go there to ship something, I use boxes that have the dimensions written on the bottom. The clerk measures my box, starts typing on her computer. I pay, I look at my receipt, and the dimensions the clerk entered are always at least 1x1x1 more! Today I shipped an item I sold on Ebay, I made sure to write in visible print the dimensions of the box on the top (14x14x8)...confident that I would not be overcharged this time, I paid the lady, looked at my receipt, turns out my box was actually 15.5x15.5x9! I should probably speak up one of these times, but I don't want to look like a dick complaining over a dollar. Sure its only an extra dollar...but I ship frequently and it adds up. I'm an idiot for continuing to go back there, but aaaarrrgggh!Anyone else experience this there? They are snakes!
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 It shouldn't be altering the price.UPS charges by two things: weight and dimensions. For regular sized boxes, they go strictly by weight. Once they get beyond regular sized boxes, they add an oversized fee, under the presumption it will take up more room and be more difficult for the driver to carry. The dimension is calculated by L + L + W + W + H, or basically double the two longest sides plus one of the shortest, and the threshold is 84". Neither of those measurements exceeded 84" so you shouldn't have been charged a higher amount, although it's possible some of the UPS stores are independently operated and, thus, have individual policies.I know if you had processed it online you wouldn't have been charged differently for the two measurements. By the way, once you exceed 84" you're screwed. A $5 service charge is added (it might be higher now), plus a minimum weight of 30 pounds is charged, even if it's a box of gloves that weighs 7 pounds.
