Going to Europe

Recommended Posts

on that trip i went to london, paris, prague, cesky krumlov, interlaken, basel, berne, lucerne, milan, venice, amsterdam, bruges, berlin, munich, hamburg, cologne, munnerstadt, and bischofsheim. also been to palermo, taormina, rome, florence, and como. i'd like to backpack again, next summer perhaps. just a few more thoughts i had from the last trip:

favorites:

big cities - berlin & paris

small city - cesky krumlov

favorite outdoor recreation area - interlaken

favorite country overall - switzerland (germany's up there too though)

least favorite city - hamburg

least favorite country at the moment - italy (had a great time on my previous 6 week italy trip - but i think being with somebody who speaks italian helps a lot here)

if i include the first italy trip, favorite historic city would be rome.

obviously what you're looking for in a vacation will change one's perspective as far as a 'favorite', as well as a couple good or bad individual experiences - but those are my thoughts anyways.

Personally, my favorite thing to do when I'm overseas is to meet people. Sure the painting and structures are amazing, but theres nothing like mixing with very different people. Plus no one knows the city like the locals.

stuff like that is more or less the same if not more expensive because the GDP is higher... in general, lots of stuff is more expensive here (in europe) but barcelona is a crazy city, went there last summer for our school trip, you wont miss out.

The GDP isn't higher there. There are only a handful of countries over there that have really high GDP's (as in higher than that of the US and Canada) and France isn't one of them.

Dix0r, im not amazed that the italian dosers are the most odd looking. They had some problems about collecting trash, and for 1-2 months the junk was trotterin on the streets of some italian cities, i dont even understand how the romans were so sopisticated and you just look at Italy now and they have the most strikes in Europe, but french are close too. ( I mean mostly because of "low" payments )
