Skate blade holder problem

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I got a pair of Synergy 200's by Easton. I am just now getting into ice hockey and I thought these would be a good starter skate to get used to everything with. After skating on them 3 times, I popped one of the rivets on the heel of the left skate nearly entirely out of its hole. About a week later I took it to have it rerivoted with one of those heavy duty copper rivets at my LHS and the problem, although not as bad, is still there. The new rivot is holding in place for the most part, but the blade holder still seems loose in the area and the back of the blade holder is actually leaning slightly outwards even without weight being put on it (this is causing my left ankle to basically drag on the ice)....what can I do about this? Can anything be done about this or should I just contact Easton? Thanks.

Did the guy take the time to check all the other rivets' seating? If one was stressed enough to rip out, the others probably took a beating too. I'm guessing your other rivets in the area are loose and since coppers don't dig in more than they just squeeze themselves on, it is shifting around.

All the other rivets looked normal....they looked like they do on the right skate, which I've had absolutely no problems with, and to be frank, the with the direction in which most of the skating is done, there should actually be more stress on the right skate if anything. I actually had 2 rivets replaced...the one that had come completely out was replaced with the copper rivet, the one in front of it was replaced with a normal, slightly longer rivet.

It wouldn't hurt to have him give all the rivets in the heel a good squeeze with the press.

I'll see if I can upload a picture sometime tomorrow....I have the feeling it's not the rivets now, I think the plastic in the blade holder might be bent, but I'll see what you guys think.
