Putting adhesives to fill in new holders ?

Recommended Posts

Just did a switch of T-Blades (which I never wanted to try out) to LS2s on my CCMs, there were tiny gaps between the holder and the base of the boot. I put some liquid silicone adhesives to fill in these gaps but would this do any damage to the holder or base ? Any thoughts ?

Thought you meant filling out the holes in the soles that are not used. You could have used epoxy for the holes in soles, just put a piece of masking tape inside the boots so that it does not drip, then fill the holes from the outside.

Actually no, has nothing to do w/ the holes in the soles. There were small gaps when they put the LS2 on the boot, most noticably in the heel area. For stability purposes, feared the gap would lead to potential cracking of the holder plus got the idea with the T-Blades as there were a lot of the silicone adhesive between the T-Blade holders and the boot before the LS2 switch.

are you sure they mounted the holder correctly? all my mounts that i have done there have been very minimal gaps, if any. the place i see gaps the most is at the very back near the heel becasue there is no rivet in the middle of the back, and also the toe, but the heel is the most comon. obviously without pictures i can only assume but it sounds like your seeing gaps between rivets?

Front cap is smoother as I used a flat head screwdriver to scrap off the extra adhesives but did not do that in the back portion which looked a bit chunky. The LS2 were not a direct flat fit to the boot prior to mounting as there were tiny gaps and this was why I added the adhesive to fill in the 1 mm gap (front bolt on the back portion of the holder).

I'm really racking my brain here, and I can't figure out why someone would do that. I can really see no possible positives here. And I can see possible negatives in that depending on the strength of that adhesive, when you try to take those holders off, you either wreck the boot, or can't get them off at all. If it's not strong enough to do either of those things, then it's probably not strong enough to make a difference anyway. And I see the definite negative that those holders are the only way that you could possibly have made that skate uglier than with the T-blades.

Oh, and I also can't figure out why you wouldn't ask someone if that was a good idea BEFORE you did it. At this point, it doesn't really matter if we think that was a good idea or not; you've already done it.
