northern cal hockey...any players out there?

Recommended Posts

Okay so I have just moved to the bay area (fyi-San Fran), from the hockey mecca...Michigan. I already know that cali isnt the hot bed for hockey. I grew up in Michigan and have played since forever, i'm pretty sad that I left my comfy spot in my tier-1 league. Now I am in search of a league that is of equal talent and commraderie. Possible organized pick-up skates where all the guys know each other, and the play is top notch. Sitting afterwards and sharing a few pops, talking about old hockey stories.

If anyone is from the area bay area, san fran...possibly not to much farther...hit me up. I am looking to jump onto a league, or just be an addition to a good pick-up skate.

Not being picky just looking to gain what I lost.

Thanks...Dimitri

I used to play at the Bladium in Alameda 3 nights a week, until I started playing ice two years ago. The wednesday league is pretty competitive. I think the tuesday and thursday night leagues are pretty good too, but I've never played on those nights. You can also try Dry Ice in Oakland. Both the Bladium and Dry Ice would take about 20 to 45 minutes from S.F., depending on the time of day (traffic).

I play at the Bladium in Alameda on Sunday nights. It's the intermediate league and our games are usually 7 or 8pm. We do need an extra player some bodies if youre interested. Bladium has very nice facilities and it's a pretty decent place to play.

Dry Ice is the other local spot. The competition level at dry ice is better (they don't even have a beginners league) but I just don't like the facilities. The locker rooms are like broom closets (although they have one for each team and whiteboards, something youll never see at Bladium) and the sport court is way beyond needing replacement. The puck bounces EVERYWHERE. That's the main reason that I can't stand playing there.

Rollin Ice seems a lot more expensive than Bladium though. $85 for a year's membership? It's only $60 at Bladium and to join any team as a free agent is only $150. I usually pay about $120-130 for my team fees. Plus Bladium is a bit closer for him it seems but I don't know. Rollin Ice would be extremely far for me but I always see the commercials and it does look really nice. Every time I see it on TV I think about how cool it would be to play there lol. I might go there to watch NARCH though.
