Eagle Odyssey Leg Pads

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I am in the process of acquiring goalie gear so I might go out and give the position a try. (I know- try borrowing first. Sadly the person who has said I could borrow his pads has been near impossible to get a hold of of late).

I managed to find a pair of used Reebok 9K skates, bought some knee pads, and a used Brian's Blocker and Catcher.

These, however, are not my question. The leg pads I picked up and found are.

I picked up a a pair of Steve Shields Eagle Odyssey pro returns. From my investigation it seems these pads would have been made in the early 2000's. The colors are all black with yellow trim around the toe and thigh rise.

The pads are in new condition.

Are these pads a good/decent deal? How does it compare to a pair of pro-return (used) Reebok Premier 2s?

I am asking because, while the pad feels comfortable, I am concerned that should I decide not to follow the path of the goalie I would have to take a near total lose on the pads due to their age, not their condition.

Do you all have any thoughts on this?

Thank you.

Eagle makes terrific pads, but you are correct in thinking that their resale value - especially on an older model that doesn't meet the new NHL specs - will not be great compared with a pair of NHL-legal RBKs.

Bottom line: if you like the Odyssey pads and think they'll play well for you, use those. If you're not crazy about them, and you think you'll be moving on to something else very quickly, they're not a great investment.

That you for the reply.

I went with the Reeboks for two reasons:

1) the potential resale value

2) the feeling of the two pads, while different, is not so significant as to make me prefer on over the other.

We shall see what happens. Again, thank you for the advice.
