Drilling Holes on the Toecap and Outsole

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, wanted to get a little more ventilation for my skates. Would doing this be recommended? I noticed that the outsole has some notches where there would be holes on ice skates. I know this would probably void the warranty though.

btw, is the Warranty for Mission skates really 1 year?

Im pretty sure its one year...Mission has outstanding customer service...As for voiding the warranty I would say drilling holes would probubly void it, but Im not 100% sure...I dont see why drilling a couple holes would hurt the stability of the skates, so long at they were small...I have seen this done before, but I would check with Mission first on the warranty...

Definitely check with Mission before doing this. Problems can arise from improper drilling, of course. I also am of the mindset that Missions have a 1 yr warranty, unless I'm mistaken...

If you where ging to drill holes into the skate for ventilation, the toe cap would be the most common place do do it. The older mission skates had them (I think they removed them on the helium line onwards), drilling into the outsole probevly wouldnt make much of a differnce for ventilation as the air would be moving past it more insted of into it.... As for warrenty, I have no idea.

PS: what kind of an outsole is it?

What kind of socks do you wear? Instead of drilling holes maybe wear thinner socks or wicking socks if you don’t already.

Yup, I remember Mission having holes on the top of the toecap on the DNA series? etc.. Justin, any thoughts on why you guys removed the holes? Maybe I could drill some holes in the front and on top of the toecaps.

BTW, I really like these Soldiers. Good value for money compared to my Rbks. Excellent tongues, footbed and stiffness. And alot of people were saying they look good too. Never thought I would get into a pair of Mission skates again but these are pretty good.

Thanks Justin.

Score one more for the syndicate line! Justin, send me an award, I'm the hugest mission schill ever:) But seriously, yeah, the old D series did have holes near the toe cap, I was wondering myself why they tossed that idea...

It's actually illegal ( as far as the rulebook is concerned ) to have holes in your toes.

water drips onto the floor.

Well so much for reebok's and ccm's then ... can't see how sweat drips out when the holes are on top of the toe like on the old missions though, I never knew that sweat could defy gravity...

Sweat only defies gravity if you skate flat footed. Your (most skaters) toes are pointed down more often than you realize.
