Grip on Polished Concrete

Recommended Posts

I am playing in 2 leagues this summer one is tiled and one is polished concrete.

I am using Rink Rat Hot Shots/Hornets 76A, they are great on the tile. As for the polished concrete, there is no grip. Is there anything that can be done to get better grip on the polished concrete? I heard of ball hockey players using hair spray on their shoes.

Do they clean the surface you play on regularly? That could be a big factor...

If they don't, then all the grip in the world won't really help a whole lot. If they do, then try a softer wheel if possible.

woah less grip on polished concrete!? that stuff rips up my 76a hornets and im tempted to go to 78-80 for it.... but i guess everywhere is different, as there is another rink with some kind of concrete floor which you can put your finger on and get a thick layer of dust come off it... im not even sure 72a's would do it on that surface....

as top-shelf said, if they dont clean it regularly then there is no hope, maybe you should ask the rink owners about it, see if the can clean it up a little.

the outdoor rink here used to have the glazed/polished concrete, and while it still tore up wheels the only way to get any grip was buying the softest wheels you could find. I was skating on Cyko blems 74a until they refinished the surface to be texturized. See if you can't find Wicked Sticky's somewhere, they're a 72a wheel

I've got the same problem. I already use the softest Rink Rats I can get in stores and I keep losing an "edge" on turns. Friend recommended spraying a ton of windex on the floor and rolling my wheels over them. Any other homespun remedies short of getting the floor cleaned more often? (My wheels basically look dustier than a nun's womb after a game so the floor is definitely dirty)

find uber cheap soft wheels. Single pour 74a wheels tend to sponge more than dual pours, maybe some old Formula G or Grippers?

i wouldnt recommend spraying anything other than a cleaner on your wheels. if you spray something sticky its just going to hold more dust and causing more slipping. if you have a product that will clean the pores like grip juice or something that will help.if the rink is dusty, theres not a whole lot you can do but continually clean your wheels

Yeah, i think the rink is dusty. The ice came out not too long ago. The rink is getting a bit better, but still very slippery.

Well, then the only thing you can really do to improve grip is to request that the playing surface be cleaned more often. Outside of keeping your wheels rotated and cleaned with Grip Juice, there isn't really anything else.
