Pivots advice

Recommended Posts

Afternoon folks,

I'm currently trying to work on my forwards to backwards and backwards to forwards transitions while moving at speed, I can do them at a low speed but I always seem to drag the edge(s) of my trailing skate as I bring it round to the new orientation (I can hear it drag, see some snow and drag marks on ice), I think it is because I'm not transferring my weight correctly onto the other skate before trying to move the trailing skate.

Roughly what I'm doing is:

  1. Rotating my upper body towards desired direction.
  2. Transfer weight onto skate B.
  3. Lift unweighed skate A.
  4. Place unweighed skate A onto ice in new orientation (heel of A near heel of B).
  5. Transfer weight to Skate A from Skate B
  6. Lift unweighed skate B
  7. Place unweighted skate B onto ice in new orientation, parallel to skate A.

Can anyone give me any advice on how to correct this? So far I'm a bit stumpted as how to quickly transfer my weight in step five, this usually results in me trying to move the second skate with weight still on it which is making me drag the edge. Is it worth trying to practice this off ice in my inline skates or should I wait till I can do it on ice first?
