stock07 1 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 Would you be wary of a seller that was out of the country(Im in the US, they are in Canada) That was selling an item suppose to be brand new for about $150 less than retail stores are selling them right now?...It is a great deal the seller seems to be a store and has a few sizes avalible, but only has that particuler item for sale and only has one feedback(positive) but that was back in 2005?...Would you take a chance and purchase or lay off?...Also the seller does accept paypal, so I would be somewhat safe with my payment?... I'd lay off.

biff44 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 only 1 feedback is a red flag. I am always nervous if I see less than 100 positive feedbacks, and less than 99% positive. Unfortunately, for someting like hockey gear, you will have a lot of newbies selling who do not have much feedback experience. So buyer beware. There is one option, if you are willing to take a risk. SOME auctions have "paypal buyer protection". Look carefully on the right hand side of the auction page, and see if it says something like "this auction protected up to $2000". On those specific auctions, you can get your money back, after some hassel and time, if you get screwed.
NuggyBuggy 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 There is one option, if you are willing to take a risk. SOME auctions have "paypal buyer protection".Standard buyer protection only covers up to $200. Since the OP's item is $150 less than expected, I'd guess the amount still remains over $200, so he would still be exposed to risk for any amount over $200.There is additional "top-tier" coverage up to $2000, which Paypal/Ebay would like us to believe covers most items. But there are lots of conditions that have to be met (see https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p...side#pbp-policy, esp 13.8), and because the seller only has one feedback, these conditions are not met, so he is left with only $200 protection.I have read that Paypal purchases that were funded through your bank's credit card can be disputed by the credit card company. If an issue arises, apparently some people have had luck disputing the charges with credit card company, which then issues a chargeback to Paypal. I've never done it so have no personal experience here. YMMV.My advice in this case is, it seems borderline; don't bother risking it unless you can sleep with the possibility of losing your money (over $200). If you still want to check the guy out, try asking for a phone number and calling him up. That can go a long way to fishing out problems. Every Ebay business starts out with 0 feedback, so maybe you're really onto a dynamite deal.
biff44 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 I had two different disputes sucessfully resolved with the paypal system. In both cases I had paid with paypal. What they did was research the claims (in both cases I did not receive the stuff), and about a month later my paypal acct was credited. in items like this (low feedback rating) I would ask the seller to use shipping insurance. That way there is a record of if you signed for it at delivery or not--the thing you have to prove to get your money back if not delivered.
