Int vs Senior Catcher/Blocker Sizing

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am looking at getting the non-NHL spec intermediate catcher/blocker. They guy told me it is the same size as the new, NHL-spec senior stuff and better for smaller hands like me. What do you think? Is it true? How big is it, say in a RBK Premier II Pro or 8K. Is it enough protection? Some people tell me intermediate is less protection and others say it is just less material since it is made for a smaller person so less cost. Thanks.

Some measurements I found, not sure if correct but on a retail website.

Block

8*15" - old senior spec

8*14" = new IIHF Senior

7.5*14" = int rbk 8k

8*15"= int vaughn 7070

Scoop (heel to "T", Circumference)

17.5, 44" - rbk 8k IIHF

18, 45" - non IIHF senior

18, 45" - int rbk pro premier II

17, 43" - int vaughn 7070

It depends really. Some companies have Intermediate Pro models that are a bit smaller and presumably fit you better and that would protect you better than senior gear.. unless it was senior pro, then presumably it would be the exact same except for the size and fit. Your best bet is to find something that fits you right and that is a pro model no matter if it's senior or intermediate.. as long as it's pro.

Companies usually rate their stuff as youth, intermediate and senior. Intermediate is often for teenagers or pre teens or adults that are smaller in stature and that would wear 30-31 inch pads for exemple. Intermediate stuff is also usually cheaper even in the Pro grade.

Hope that helps
