Difference between CCM V06 & V08 Skates

Recommended Posts

What are the differences between the V06 and V08 skates? From what I've read it's just the outer material on the boot and the rocket runner. I'm not really interested in the rocket runner, I'd probably swap it with a steel runner. So if internally the skates are the same, and the outer material won't make much of a difference I'll save the money and go with the 06's. I don't wanna go ahead and buy them and find out that the v08's are way better, so I'm coming here before making the purchase.

High-end skates are seemingly gearing towards entirely different structure and material useage ie: One95, U+ and are often tagged in a league of their own. With most skates on the market, namely the low-mid to mid-high end, the main difference between models is the stiffness of the boot due to higher density plastics, more fiberglass etc. which is achieved through different materials but not quite as extreme as the high end skates.

But try not to get too caught up in the technical mumbo jumbo each company uses to describe what is essentially the same thing. If you're playing often enough, go ahead and spend the extra money, if you're not save it. One thing I would like to stress is go into a skate purchase with an open mind and try on everything because companies design skates on different lasts to accommodate the diversity of the average Joe - no two brands fit the same, only comparably. Both the V06 and V08 are built on the same last but if you notice fit differences, chalk it up to one being stiffer than the other; less 'give' on the stiffer boot.

Good luck!

Aye, I have the same problem with half our sales staff who would just talk about the U+ skate and say "oh its got the U foam in it" and not explain what the hell that meant, as if the customer was suppose to have prior knowledge of the marketing speak of every manufacturer down pat.
