Blade Alignment?

Recommended Posts

I saw some stuff about blade alignment on the internet and it got me kinda interested. I was just wondering what exactly is different between blade alignment and profiling and if people still do it. I can't seem to find anywhere that offers blade alignment services in the Vancouver area.

Profiling is when you change the shape of the blade, along its' length in order to enhance certain characteristics and reduce others.

Blade alignment is about moving the holder inward or outward, and/or shimming in order to get the blade to hit the ice in perpindicular position. This done to compenstae for pronation, supination, bowleggedness or being knock-kneed...etc

My feet pronante when I walk. In skates, I'm always on my inside edges, even when I'm gliding. I can glide on the flats of my blade if I roll my ankles out, but this doesn't feel natural and is uncomfortable. Would shims help this? Are shims recommened for this problem or should I be looking at better orthotics (currently in superfeet)?
