canadian_man_44 0 Report post Posted May 3, 2009 How they market their product is really up to them of course, but, I don't think I'd compare them to any Bauer skates....at least none that I've seen. In my search for a good pair of skates, an in spite of looking for a lower priced high end skate, I have tried on pretty much every skate that is available to me....which means every high end skate that is available since I live in a city where the stores seem to carry mostly high end products in the skate market. Anyway, as far as the skate boot itself, there are very few that I've tried on that can compare to the stiffness and protection of the Surge 221 as well as the internal structure of the skate boot. Keep in mind this impression is only from trying them on, but you can tell a lot about a skate by trying it on. On top of that, there is only one other skate that I tried that was as comfortable for my foot right out of the box. These were the high end CCM Vector skates. The blade holder is made from polycarbonate....which, although it may not look and feel the same as a regular blade holder, still is supposed to be quite strong. During my research on this product I found that research has shown that one of the biggest advantages of polycarbonate is its impact strength. From that research, it seems like putting that material on a blade holder is a damn good idea. It ranks right with Zytel, the product used in Tuuk blade holders, for impact resistance. Here's an interesting read for anyone that really wants to know what polycarbonate is.http://www.ptsllc.com/polcarb_intro.htm
