Anyone make the transition from HI-LO to Hummer?

Can anyone who has made the transition between the 2 give me info on what they liked or disliked about either one? For example speed, turning, stopping etc... I just bought an ice boot to do an ice to inline conversion but I just can't decide between these 2 chassis.

not sure if you want to consider it, but i went from

Hilo ->sensor -> sprungs -> hilo -> vanguard -> sprungs

there are significant differences, but nothing a skate or two wont help rectify. I've kinda grew up (started at 18) on hilo, and used those for years before trying to go with something different. At the end of the day, I've stuck with sprungs because of the following reasons, even though the A7 sprungs I've got has got a longer wheelbase

- faster starts

- much much MUCH faster stops

- quicker turns

- and for the first time in my life I can turn and cut left very sharply without wiping out

You will feel that you are going to be more on your heels, but it can be overcome with a few skates, or with a heel lift. There are a few guys on the forum who have done their own heel lifts, so you might want to consider doing that yourself.

the longer wheel base of the sprungs is what has kept me away from them I have always disliked that in a frame. The being on the heels part also has me a bit skeptical but i'm less worried about that aspect of it. I definitely want to try something new as i have been on hi-lo/vanguards forever.

Went from original Hi Lo 78/72, to all 76CCM, back to Hi/Lo, then took a bunch of years off, and started again on 78/72, then tried a Tour boot with the all 80 Hummer. Now I only play ice, but I have put a 80/76 Vanguard on a pair of Bauer 4000s, and have some Sprungs that will eventually get mounted on something.

I felt the Hummer set-up put you incredibly back on your heels, and tight turns and quick starts were sluggish. Skated on that for about four sessions, so naturally I would have got used to it, but I did NOT like it at all.

If you read the Sprung thread the feedback is nearly 100% positive and those that try them love them and stay with them.

Man you guys may have talked me into some sprungs, guess it cant hurt to try them!!

I skated a HiLo chassis from the time they came out until about 9 months ago. I switched up and had some Hummers mounted. They do not have as much forward lean as HiLo's, but getting used to them was quick. It maybe took two or three games to feel as comfortable in them as I did on HiLo's.

The positives far outweigh the negatives for the Hummers (in my opinion). I feel as though my top end speed is a little better. Grip on turning has exceeded my expectations and best of all I feel stopping power is superior on the Hummer set up.

I have not felt a decrease in my mobility or in other words an increase in my turning radius. I won't hesitate to put a set of Hummers on my next skates, but I do want to give some Sprungs a go...especially since Keith and Sprung are local to where I live and play.

Granted that the wheelbase is going to be longer, and I do admit that it still freaks me out to see the wheels hang off the edge of the boot that much.... BUT, for me the benefits of the sprungs far outweighs the looks... somehow when I look at my skates it looks like a child's boot on an adult chassis...

Give them a try... if not I'll buy them from ya!
