Looking to play Hockey overseas

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys.

I am 16 year old from New Zealand and I play in the NZIHL .

I'm thinking about doing my next year of high school overseas in Canada (or any real Hockey orientated place) I will be 17 next year and was wondering what sort of Hockey programs are available for a 17 year old.

Thanks.

What level of hockey are you looking to play? If you're coming to Canada, you'll have lots of options and it wouldn't be difficult to find places to play, whether its league or pick up. You'll also have intramural options at school and try out for varsity. Where in Canada are you planning to move to?

Better have a look at the IIHF transfer payments-there was a thread on here last year on the subject.

At 17...Major Junior, then JR A....below that JR B and a few vanity pay to play JR leagues. College, JR college the following year.....in Toronto there is now AAA under 21 good calibre hockey for kids not going into Jr. Have you played for New Zealands under 17 National team or anything....something establishing your calibre could open doors for tryouts.

Im looking to do the same thing next year actually since I finish high school at the end of 09'. I have no idea what level I would be playing in the Jr. ranking system but what I would assume would be jr. B but I'm really not sure. I can't speak for Tbaby, but I've played for the New Zealand u16's, u18's and u20's. Any help would also be appreciated.

Sorry if I high-jacked your thread Tbaby.

If you've played for all three of those teams at age 17, I would think you would stand at least a decent shot at Junior A. I would think that you could certainly make a Junior B team.

Then again, I guess I don't really know the strength of the NZ system. But you should certainly try to play junior.
