Sprint hardware question

I'm selling a sprint htc touch for someone second hand. I've done a reset to factory settings and now many interested people are asking if it has a clean ESN. I don't know what that means. Os there anything I can do to check that plus make sure it's good to go to another user?

The ESN is the serial number found on the phone. Usually inside the battery housing.

Call Sprint and ask them what the deal is with the phone.
