Tour Tabu or Ice conversion?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

About 6 months ago I went skate first into the boards and injured my ankle. I was wearing Tour Beemers that have a soft ankle support anyway. So I'm thinking about changing the skates but unsure if I should go for the new Tour Tabu, if they have a stiffer ankle support, or perhaps an ice conversion such as the vapor xxxx as they are super cheap at $250 and put the hummer frame on them? I play on a really crappy surface which is a soft gym matting, very common in the UK so not sure if this will help guide anyones opinion.

Also I was wondering why Tour never make EE width skates? and why are their toe-caps alot more stubby than other brands? Sorry for the random questions on a Friday night, hockey was cancelled tonight.

Thanks for any advice.

I would suggest first trying a pair of Tabus on and see how they fit. They have some good ankle support. The xxxx’s are a lower cut boot, at least I have found for me they do not offer as much ankle support as Tours. As for the toe cap, Tour introduced a new redesigned toe cap on the Carbon a couple years back and have been using it ever since, so the toe cap you will find on the Tabus are very different from the toe cap on the Beemers.

Thanks for your advice. Does the new toe-cap have a wider or an ergonomic profile? Sorry for all the questions but the local hockey shop doesn't stock Tour (infact doesn't really stock anything to be honest) I have pretty protruding ankle bones so a low cut boot might cause issues in the long run. Thanks again.

I have found the re-designed toe cap to be wider and fit better. Here is a comparison photo for you, on the left is the new re-designed toe-cap and on the right is the older toe-cap used on the beemers. Both skates are the same size.
