TPS tapered shaft/blade fit problem

Recommended Posts

I searched for similar threads, but found nothing. Please redirect me if there's something on this already.

I recently purchased a few Pro-stock TPS tapered shafts. I haven't had a lot of luck finding reasonably-priced, tapered TPS blades anywhere. Warrior Dolos, Mission pro stock, NBH pro stock and Mission tapered blades all don't fit the shafts. It seems like the TPS shaft is too narrow to accomodate them without splitting.

Anyone else have a similar observation/problem?

Can anyone suggest other brands/blades that will fit in TPS tapered shafts? Links to online stores where I might be able to find some reasonably-priced, tapered, TPS blades would be helpful, too. (I live 3 hours from the nearest pro shop in the US :( )

Thanks in advance for any help!

The shafts you bought, are they the 'pro radiused' shaft?

The reason I ask is because TPS pro radiused are a smaller diameter than a 'normal' TPS senior shaft.

I have a new pro stock R8 shaft, and Warrior tapered blades fit fine.

They are not pro-radius shafts. I think that the weave may be 12k (definitely the bigger squares), but I don't know exactly what to look for.

I found out from the seller on ebay that they were apparently (according to what the SWD/TPS rep told him) made for a guy who Played for Quad City and may be with Calgary now. He apparently liked to use different blades and would trim the hosel area back, depending on the blade. First time I've heard of anyone doing this except for broken OPS, but I'm no expert.

I think that there are a few of these left on Ebay, in case others would want something like this. The seller (Jim) Grinder Sports (also Hockey Plus in Green Bay) on ebay has been incredibly helpful and is a straightforward guy, for sure. He's trying to come up with a few other TPS blades through the rep to solve the problem and has gone way beyond what I would have expected from most ebayers, for sure. I think that they may fit TPS blades only.

If I can get the blade thing figured out, these will have been a steal at 79.99 OBO on eBay. If not, they're not going to be much help. If you have a bunch of TPS tapered blades, you may want to check one out. The pic for the listing is not clear. They have a really cool carbon/silver/black/green color scheme. If they fit a retail TPS tapered blade, I'll update the thread.

If the eBay guy can't get you the pro stock blades, couldn't you just cut a little off the tapered end? I know it would move the flex point and such, but treating it like a broken OPS would at least allow you to use a retail blade.

Tried that. The taper stays very, very thin for a while. I cut it up to the point where I'm risking making it unusable (for me) if I cut it much more. Any further cutting is on hold for the time being. I'm trying to nail down some good TPS blades and test them first.

Edit to add more

Even with cutting several inches from the tapered end, none of my Warrior, NBH, Mission Pro Stock or retail mission blades to work. Thinking it might be TPS or bust?!

Never used RBK blades or SWD blades. Any comparisons to how small the hosels are compared to TPS?
